Mandates of the Bureau

The Bureau is mandated to take leading role in the Areas of Research, Study and Innovation. Technology transfer will be its mandate when it comes to Climate Smart Agriculture, Green Economy, Energy Efficient Technology, Commercial Forestry, and Incentivizing Biodiversity Conservation, Integrated watershed Management, Maintaining Ecosystem Health and Balance.

Thus, the scope of the activities related to the Mandates of the Bureau include: 

  • Develop Policies, Strategies, Programs, and Guidelines for Environmental Protection, Forestry Development and Utilization, Biodiversity Conservation and Climate Change Adaptation
  • Regulate and monitor that any Development Activities are planned and implemented in an environmentally friendly manner (without harming the environment).
  • Issue laws and regulations (concerning Environmental Protection, Forests and Biodiversity Conservation) and after approval regulate Monitor and evaluate their Implementation.
  • Conduct Environmental Protection Audit, Solid & Liquid Waste Management Campaigns and control Industrial Pollution so as not to damage the environment.
  • Reviewing study reports, assessing the impact of projects on the environment and social issues
  • Collection, Organization and Analysis of Natural Resources Data Related to Environmental Protection, Forest Development Biodiversity Conservation, Rural Land Lease Policy Use.
  • Raising the awareness of the community and relevant agencies on issues related to Environmental Protection and Management
  • Developing plans and implementing programs to enhance the adaptability of climate change to the nomadic community and pastoralists-farmers
