On October 9, 2025, the Climate Change Coordination and Alignment Forum was held in Jigjiga City, bringing together key stakeholders working on climate change mitigation and development planning in the region.

The forum, which is organized annually by the SRS Environmental Protection and Rural Land Administration Bureau (SRS.EPRLAB), was attended by relevant partner sector offices involved in climate change response, as well as non-governmental organizations. The two-day forum aims to strengthen collaboration and coordination among stakeholders in order to develop a unified and effective approach to addressing the impacts of climate change.

The forum was officially opened by H.E. Abdikadir Mohammed Hassan, Deputy Bureau Head of the SRS Environmental Protection and Rural Land Administration Bureau (SRS.EPRLAB). In his opening remarks, he emphasized that the platform is intended to produce practical and responsive climate adaptation plans, noting that climate change poses significant global challenges and that the region requires a coordinated and unified strategy to address its impacts.

During the forum, participants will present sector-specific climate change plans and engage in discussions on how to harmonize these plans into a single, integrated framework. The discussions are expected to contribute to reducing climate-related risks, both natural and human-induced, while also accelerating sustainable development initiatives across the region.
