On December 25, 2025, a Community Consultation Workshop and training session was conducted in connection with the proposed establishment of a Giraffe Sanctuary planned for implementation in the Jarati and Goro-Beqaqsa areas, with inclusion of Gura-Dhaamole.

The workshop was officially opened by Mr. Daakir Aaden Hussein, Deputy Administrator of Libaan Zone, and was attended by Mr. Osman Ali Samatar, Administrator of Goro-Beqaqsa District, Mr. Jaamac Carab Mahmoud, representative of Jarati District, and officials from Gura-Dhaamole District.

The consultation brought together community members from diverse backgrounds, including traditional elders, youth, village leaders, and representatives of government institutions, ensuring broad public participation.

The workshop was jointly organized by the SRS Environmental Protection and Rural Land Administration Bureau (SRS.EPRLAB) and the SRS Culture and Tourism Bureau. Discussions focused on the presentation of giraffe study findings, the importance of biodiversity conservation, and the potential benefits of the sanctuary for environmental protection, tourism development, and community livelihoods. Participants also engaged in dialogue on addressing potential challenges through collaborative solutions.

During the sessions, Mr. Mowlid Hassan, Director of Biodiversity Conservation at SRS.EPRLAB, and Mr. Aden Hussein, Director of Tourism Research and Development at the SRS Culture and Tourism Bureau, presented key study results and provided awareness on wildlife laws and policies, with particular emphasis on offenses related to wildlife violations and their legal consequences.

Overall, the community consultation concluded with strong mutual understanding, cooperation, and public support, laying a solid foundation for the future implementation of the Jarati–Goro-Beqaqsa–Gura-Dhaamole Giraffe Sanctuary. The initiative aims to protect the environment, promote sustainable tourism, and deliver long-term benefits for present and future generations.
