SRS. Environmental Protection and Rural Land Administration Bureau, in collaboration with the Rural Land Administration and the National Plant Development Agency, participated in a meeting where a study on environmental resources and their utilization was presented.
The study focused particularly on frankincense and myrrh, which are among the key dryland natural resources of the region.
The meeting, held at the DDS Presidential Office, was attended by the President of the Region, H.E. Mustafe Muhumed Omer, who highlighted that the region’s rich frankincense and myrrh resources have strong demand in Middle Eastern markets. He emphasized the need to take practical steps to improve their marketing and utilization.
During the meeting, a detailed study was presented outlining the most appropriate methods for utilizing these natural resources.
The Bureau Head of SRS. Environmental Protection and Rural Land Administration Bureau, Eng. Muhaydin Abdi Hussein, emphasized the importance of strengthening the sustainable utilization of natural resources, including frankincense and myrrh, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance environmental protection and economic growth in the Somali Regional State.
If the recommendations outlined in the study are properly implemented, these resources are expected to contribute significantly to economic growth and improve the livelihoods of pastoral communities who directly depend on them.
